Beastie Boys member Mike “Mike D.” Diamond has released a new song called “Humberto Vs. The New Reactionaries: Christine And The Queens Remixx,” a 10-minute track commissioned by fashion house Kenzo. According to Rolling Stone, the song will serve as the soundtrack to Kenzo’s spring/summer 2014 show and came about after Spike Jonze introduced Diamond to Kenzo creative director Humberto Leon.
Diamond said in an interview with Kenzo, “Talking to Humberto, I wanted to honor what he was inspired by: American hardcore like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks but then I wanted to update it, or maybe couldn’t help but to update it.”
- This is the first new music released by a surviving member of the Beastie Boys since the death in May 2012 of Adam Yauch from cancer.
- Yauch succumbed at the age of 47, just weeks after the trio were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- Diamond and third Beastie Boy Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz are currently working on a memoir that’s scheduled to be published in the fall of 2015.
- The Beasties’ last album before Yauch’s passing, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, came out in May 2011.
