Rise Against has announced that it will release a compilation of rare original songs and cover tunes called Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides & Covers 2000 – 2013 on September 10th. Lead singer Tim McIlrath said in a statement, “In the last 13 or so years Rise Against has put out six records, each one we are proud to put our name on. But we are just as proud of these 26 songs that slipped through the cracks and never ended up on any of our full lengths . . . most of these songs saw the light of day at some point, but we thought we would spare you the digging and put them all on one record.”
A full track list has yet to be revealed, but one song likely to make it is a cover of Bob Dylan’s “The Ballad Of Hollis Brown” that was recorded for a 2012 tribute album called Chimes Of Freedom. McIlrath told us at the time how Rise Against approached the track: “We just ran it through like the machine of Rise Against, and it’s got a little bit of everything that we do. It’s kind of like, instead of like a song with like a verse and a chorus, this was more like this big, dark story, and it was almost more like a soundtrack. And that’s how we treated the song, which, I’ll be honest, is kind of foreign territory for Rise Against.”
Pre-orders and exclusive fan offers for Long Forgotten Songs will begin on July 30th. A teaser for the set has already surfaced online.
Rise Against has been on an extended hiatus since finishing out a two-year tour cycle earlier this year for its 2011 album, Endgame.
