Imagine Dragons is about to make Billboard chart history, as the band’s hit song “Radioactive” tied Jason Mraz‘s “I’m Yours” this week for the most weeks spent on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart. Both tracks have logged 76 weeks on the chart, and with “Radioactive” at Number 23 and not likely to plummet off the survey next week, Imagine Dragons will most likely become the new record-holder when the next chart arrives.
The song is taken from the band’s 2012 debut, Night Visions, which has sold more than two million copies. The band toughed it out in Las Vegas clubs for four years before the album came out, and frontman Dan Reynolds told us it was time well spent:
[“The last thing that we wanted to do was to put out our first album when we didn’t understand exactly who we were as a band. We needed that time and that development to really find who Imagine Dragons was and to have a unique sound that was ours, and a message that, you know, we felt was worth saying before we tried to show it to the public and have them understand it.”]
- “Radioactive” has sold 6.6 million downloads.
- Nipping at Imagine Dragons’ heels on the chart is AWOLNation with “Sail,” which just notched its 75th week and looks like it will pass Mraz as well next week.
