Life Lesson #284 – Don’t tell people your uncle gave you herpes… not even as a joke.
This is an important lesson that Papa Roach’s lead singer, Jacoby Shaddix, is learning the hard way.
Last August, during an interview where a reporter asked him if he could remember his first kiss, Jacoby replied with: “My first kiss was when my uncle kissed me and he gave me herpes. It was terrible. Anybody else got herpes? Yeah, you do. Don’t lie to yourself. I know you got it, you watching this.”
His comment made headlines everywhere and Shaddix was forced to clear the air in yet another interview. He said: “I was just f*ckin’ around. I was doing press in a tent full of about a hundred people, and I’d been asked about a hundred stupid questions. So I just started taking the piss out of it and it got picked up as a headline.”
He continued: “I do have herpes, but I did not get it from my uncle… I’ve had it since I was a kid. Just cold sores, know what I’m saying? It sucks, though — I’ve had it my entire life.”
So what has Jacoby learned from this whole embarrassing fiasco? He says, ” You’ve gotta watch what you say in the press. I’ve been doing this for years, but you get caught slipping one time and it’s, ‘Oh, god. That’s the headline?!'”
On a herpes-free note, Papa Roach is currently touring across the USA with Seether and their 8th studio album called ‘F.E.A.R’ will be released January 27th
