QOTSA fans were celebrating late last year when lead singer Josh Homme hinted that the boys had new tunes ready for the studio. In an interview with Rolling Stone Homme said, “We have more than enough songs. We’re booked til September, but after that we plan to jump in the studio and get going.”
Good news, right?
Sadly, in the end, we celebrated too soon.
QOTSA bassist Mikey Shuman has just announced that the band is ‘taking a break’ to work on individual projects.
In a recent interview Shuman said, “There will be future stuff with Queens, we’re just taking a break to do other stuff. After ‘…Like Clockwork’ we were eager because we were in a good spot, having fun and the record had done really well. But we decided to take a break because we had been going so hard for so long, and we really worked on that record for a long time. It’s not like we’re sick of each other and don’t want to do it – it’s just better to step back for a second and come back once the world has had a little bit of a break from you.”
Shuman is already focusing on his other band, Mini Mansions, which releases its second album next week.
Here’s hoping QOTSA won’t make us wait another 6 years for a new album, as they’ve done in the past (‘Era Vulgaris’ – 2007 and ‘…Like Clockwork’- 2013).
