Consequence of Sound had a great article today where the writers reflected back on their favourite festival experiences.
It got me thinking back to some of my favourite sets and there are two I can think of right now.
Back in 2007, my wife was pregnant with our first child and we drove down to Seattle for the Labour Day long weekend festival, Bumbershoot.
I don’t remember exactly how we found The Frames, neither of us had ever heard of them, but Coral (my wife) was tired of walking around her pregnant belly so we grabbed some soda pops, a spot on the grass, and waited for the next band. It was Ireland’s The Frames.
Their set was beautiful and the perfect soundtrack to that day.
The other show that stands out in my memory…kind of a similar vibe. Explosions In The Sky at Sasquatch 2009. My wife and I had gone hard that weekend (we actually went too hard, that’s another story) and by the last night of festival we were done. EITS weren’t the last set of the festival, but they were our last one. The set was mesmerizing and a great comedown after an unreal weekend.
