We play many different kinds of rock music here…alternative rock, mainstream rock, indie rock, classic rock, heavy metal, pop-rock, reggae-rock…the list is always growing and changing. Of all those rock sub-genres, which genre do you think has the MOST LOYAL fans?
The guitar seems to be the key to loyalty looking at a new study done by Spotify.
The research is based on listening habits of a music fans’ favourite genre and how often they turn to a different genre for a change or stick to the same old.
Metal fans are the people to keep in your circle of friends or get into a relationship with because they are loyal as hell – they never stray from listening to their Metallica or Iron Maiden, they stick within their genre.
“One could also conclude that the more guitar-oriented genres inspire more loyalty in the listener…This doesn’t necessarily mean metal is better than jazz – metalheads would disagree – but it does tell us that metal fans are in fact the most hardcore, according to this new measure of genre loyalty.”
“After Metal and Pop, the rest of the genres cluster into two groups. Folk, Country, and Rock fans have a higher loyalty score, and Hip Hop does fairly well too, while Jazz, EDM, Classical, and Blues scores are not as high, suggesting that those listeners don’t adhere as closely to the core of their favored genre. (Reggae sits between the two groups.)”
