You might soon be able to enjoy your favourite movie with an icy cold one (or a glass of vino!) alongside your popcorn.
On July 22nd, Vancouver City Council will be meeting to discuss whether Fifth Avenue Cinemas will be able to operate a bar to serve alcohol in the lobby and all five of its theatres in conjunction with ticketed films or broadcasts.
The bar service would operate seven days a week between noon and 11 p.m. and be available one hour before, during and one hour after a film screening.
This would be the first licensed major movie theatre in Vancouver, aside from the independent Rio Theatre and the Vancouver International Film Centre.
Cineplex theatres in Abbotsford and Coquitlam are already ahead of the game by offering booze in their licensed lounges, which are operated under the VIP service (it’s a special option for anyone aged 19+ and includes over-sized seats with foot rests, lounge and bar, in-seat food and beverage service and specialty food options).
If city council gives it the green light, the lineup to the ladies bathroom might never be the same.
