It has been revealed that Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley nearly joined Audioslave, the band formed by Rage Against the Machine members after that band’s demise. Staley’s friend and one-time roommate Morgen Gallagher tells Alternative Nation, “He said he had gotten a call from the old Rage Against The Machine members and they were putting together a new project, and they wanted him to audition. He said he was going back to treatment and then going to LA to do the audition in a couple of months.”
However, Staley “never made it” to rehab and ex-Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell got the gig instead. Less than a year later, Staley was found dead in his Seattle apartment due to a drug overdose.
