31 years later and Metallica’s Ride The Lightning is still one of the top 3 thrash metal albums of all time (one of the other top 3 just happens to be Metallica’s Master of Puppets). If you asked me which one of those two was better, I wouldn’t be able to pick one. You’d probably have to actually put a gun to my head and give me a 5 second countdown before I blurted out an answer. The biggest highlight of the album for me is during the breakdown/guitar solo of the song ‘Ride The Lightning’. Lars’ drum fill into James’ half time feel open guitar chords, into Kirk’s finger tapping is about as good as it gets. It happens at 2:32 of this video:
