Listen up Trekkies, CBS is firing up their iconic series Star Trek for the Television screen. Hang on…not the TV in the traditional sense, but on-demand CBS All Access.
CBS has brought on TV producer Alex Kurtzman to oversee the reboot. He has worked on Alias, Fringe. Hawaii 5-0, Sleepy Hollow, and Limitless.
The new series will boldly go with a new cast of intrepid explorers who may or may not like their Earl Grey Tea hot.
CBS Studios says “the brand new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”
CBS says the new series isn’t a tie0-in to the Star Trek films. But then, what exactly could a new Star Wars series look like? Mashable speculates on three possible scenarios.

First and most likely: The series will exist in the same rebooted universe as the Abrams films, but with its own characters and a storyline that the movies will barely acknowledge. Think the relationship between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Second: The series will occur in the “old universe,” the one that encompasses all the previous TV series and all the movies up to Star Trek Nemesis.
Third: It could reboot the franchise again. Older fans will love the second option, but either that or the third seems an odd thing to do if Paramount has any plans to continue the Abrams movies after Beyond.
You know Mashable, I don’t hate any of those theories.
Vanity Fair says that even if you aren’t a Star Trek nerd, you should be able to get into a rebooted Star Trek.

Expect the new Star Trek to premier in January of 2017 on CBS then continue online.
