No, not hair of the dog….actually, a vodka Caesar would be helpful too…no, I’m talking Sprite.
Mmmm, the lemon-lime clear soda pop developed in 1959 West Germany has the some sort of component that alleviates the dreaded hangover.
A Chinese study from 2013 (hoping herbal teas would help mellow the harsh realities of a hangover) found: How it works is that it helps the body better metabolize alcohol, and in particular, speeds up your ability to process aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), which is thought to be responsible for the symptoms of a hangover.
The thing is… there isn’t anything special in Sprite. It’s carbonated sugar water. Why Sprite and not 7Up? The blog Hangover Heaven tried to get to the bottom of the story and came away with, Sprite does not contain any kind of magical ingredient from the rain forest. It is carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and artificial flavors. There are no antioxidants or vitamins.
In the end, the best cure for a night of booze, is more booze. Bring on the Caesar…vodka Caesar, the bourbon….uhh, I don’t want to think about bourbon right now.
