In 2003, when Thom Yorke was the spokesman for a climate change campaign that was part of environmental organization the Friends of the Earth, he was asking politicians to acknowledge climate change. The Radiohead frontman now reveals that advisers to former Prime Minister Tony Blair “tried to blackmail” him. He explains, “It got into this big fight … [They said,] ‘If you don’t agree to meet the prime minister, Friends of the Earth will be denied all access to him,’. Because of the Iraq war, I didn’t want to do it. I felt it was morally unacceptable for me to be photographed with Blair.”
“This society is still run by a bunch of misguided priests who are willing to sacrifice the people on a high altar in order to maintain the economic status quo,” Yorke also says.
