The Draken Harald Hårfagre is a modern interpretation of a Viking Longship. And next year, the ship will attempt to sail from Norway to Newfoundland by way of Iceland and Greenland.
As amazing as that sounds, it needs a crew, and YOU could be part of it. They’re accepting applications right now for able-bodied people to crew this boat on it’s adventure.
The Harald was built in 2012, and in 2013 sailed around the North Sea. Have a look at this video and see if sailing a Viking Longship is something you could do.
This trip is mpore for the adventure than historically reenacting aany moment in history. It is believed Vikings did discover North America, but they did it in a smaller vessel called a Knarr and Lief Erikson left from a base in Greenland.
This website here is a great resource and worth a read if you’re thinking..shit, I want to spend my summer in the North Atlantic pretending to be a viking.
I tell ya, in another life I would be all over this adventure!
Shoutout to my buddy Jevon for sending me this story.
Ahh that’s not true, he’s a good guy, I just love these Vikings GIFs.
