A new ski resort planned for Mount Garibaldi on crown land near Squamish took a step closer to reality last week. The Provincial government granted the developers their Environmental Assessment Certificate. The $3.5 billion dollar project will be called Garibaldi at Squamish. The resort will feature 668 hectares of terrain. 124 ski runs, 3 gondolas, and 18 chair lifts. Plus all the real-estate (and speculation) and shopping one would imagine in a modern outdoor experience.
As much fun as a new resport sounds, not everyone is excited. The BC Business magazine has an article pointed out why a new resort is a bad scene right now. And Vancity Buzz points that Hemlock will be getting a massive upgrade.
