Producer Clive Davis’s pre-Grammys gala event on Sunday night kicked off with Beck joining members of Nirvana—Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear—for a performance of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” which Nirvana famously covered in 1994.
Dave Grohl on covering Bowie: ‘I didn’t want it to stop’
At a pre-Grammys party on Sunday, Dave Grohl, Beck, and Grohl’s former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear performed a cover of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” and Grohl has revealed that they ran through several takes in rehearsals because he didn’t want the experience to end.
“We ran through the song a few times and got it down,” he says. “I was the one who cued [the musicians] when to stop, but I just didn’t want it to stop, so we played it again and again and again even though it all sounded fine.”
