There is a frightening trend across the big cereal manufacturers: declining profits.
According to a story in the CBC, the industry did a poll to find out why young adults are not eating as much cold cereal as the Gen Xers who marched before them. The reason? The process of finding a clean bowl, pouring milk and cereal into it, eating it, then cleaning up the dishes is too much work.
Sales of breakfast cereal have been declining for year. About $13.9 billion in Cinnamon Toast Crunch compared to $10 billion-ish today.
But some millennials (who aren’t too preoccupied with selfies) have taken the time to push back. I like this tweet.
Avocado and toast is fucking delicious. Which then makes me yearn for the toast at The Birds and The Beets in Gastown. Fuuuuffff so good.
The mainstream media’s obsession with Millennials is reaching a fever pitch. But they’re not that hard to understand.
Now millennials (a demographic I might be part of? I think I’m on the border)….get after those prizes at the bottom and don’t forget to collect those box tops! In fact… they could boost sales if the prize was a kale smoothie at the bottom. I think I just solved the problem…. get General Mills on the line, I have an idea they just might need.
