Paleontologists have dug up the remains of a 68 million year old Tyrannosaurus rex in Montana. What’s special about this dinosaur is that it was pregnant and may contain DNA.
Scientists will be able to learn more about the gender differences between dinosaurs. Egg laying female dinosaurs also have a bone unique to them when they’re pregnant. This bone, the medullary bone, may contain actual dinosaur DNA.
“Yes, it’s possible,” Lindsay Zanno told Discovery News, referring to genetic material that may be present in this as well as similar dinosaur finds. “We have some evidence that fragments of DNA may be preserved in dinosaur fossils, but this remains to be tested further.”
When does Jurassic Park open?
When my wife was pregnant with our first kid, she craved those double baked potatoes from Moxies. I don’t know if I want to know what a pregnant T-rex would be craving. But, I bet they’d have cute babies.
Bill Green wrote into CFOX to say that he thinks T-rex’s may have looked like this! Classy.
