Guns N Roses was my first real musical obsession. Sure, when I was really young I knew who ACDC was and I even got some Def Leppard fever. But when I was 9 years old I discovered GnR after flipping through my aunt’s record collection, and I was instantly hooked. So although this ‘reunion’ tour isn’t quite all there (no Steven Adler, Matt Sorum, Izzy Stradlin, or Gilby Clarke for that matter), it’s still pretty huge to know that I’m going to be able to see my first band in mostly all of their glory.
As a die hard there are two songs that I desperately want them to play, but I always figured they probably wouldn’t. #1 is ‘Locomotive’ from the Use Your Illusion II album. I won’t get into the specifics, other than to say it was never a ‘hit’ but I urge you to go ahead and find it. #2 is ‘Coma’ from Use Your Illusion I. Again, it’s a long shot because it’s a very long song that only the hardcore album lovers would know, and when a band has as many familiar songs as GnR does, it’s reasonable to expect that they’re probably going to leave it out of the setlist.
However…GnR played their first proper arena shows over the weekend, and guess what?! They didn’t play ‘Locomotive’, but they DID bust out ‘Coma’, and it’s the first time the song has been played since 1993.
As the title of this posting says, they played some killer songs over the two evenings in Vegas.
They’re coming to Seattle on Friday August 12th. The Jeff O’Neil show is giving away tickets all week. Good luck winning them…if you do, get in touch with me. I’ll be at the show watching a childhood dream come to life, and partying my face off in the process.
