Every weekend, if the weather is remotely decent, me and the kids are out and about in Vancouver finding adventure. We live in Coquitlam and tend to venture aorund the aprks out that way, but I was interested to know what some of the best playgrounds are around the city…so I took to Facebook to ask my other 30-something parent Fox rocking friends what they thought. Here we.
01) Rocky Point (Port Moody)
I’ll start with my favourite park, but also a park that was mentioned by a ton of people on my informal poll.
You have ocean, nature trails, water park, skate park, water sports, and a great playground. But then factor in Rocky Point Ice Cream, Pajos Fish and Chips and across the street TWO breweries…look out.
02) Terra Nova Play Enviroment (Richmond)
A fancy, $1 million dollar park should have a fancy name! This park is located in the top north-west corner of Richmond along the Fraser River and Georgia Straight. The park is designed for “off leash” children…a place to let them climb, explore, take risks and generally live Lord of the Flies style. Can’t wait to take my young’ns.
03) Queenston Playground (Coquitlam)
A park built into the side of Burke Mountain? What? Kinda like how a hobbit might do it. The park has slides and climbing apparatuses all over the place. Plus that spongy rubber ground…so when my 2-year-old falls down, I probably won’t have to factor in a trip to Eagle Ridge Hospital to my plans.
04) Lions Park (Port Coquitlam)
Lions Park in Poco offers so much! Beautiful adventure style playground. Skate park, nature trails. That fancy ruber playground that kids bounce off of…and a waterpark. Clutch in the heat!
05) Queen’s Park (New Westminster)
When I asked my friends which parks they love to take their kids too…I obviously got a lot of different park ideas (Pigeon Park?…does it have a swing set?)…but the gems got multiple recommendations like New West’s Queen’s Park. In fact…this park as been a favourite in the Lower Mainland for many years. I think my Mom took me there when I was a kid in the early 80s. Their Rainbow Playland section has the adventure play area, a water park and a PETTING ZOO! C’mon. Kids love petting zoos.
Now I live in Coquitlam and most my friends live in Vancouver or the Tri-Cities…so I am sure I missed so many outstanding parks. Leave your ideas in the comments below!
