Chris Martin’s first “gig” since Prince’s death was a benefit show in Santa Monica on Sunday, where he performed with a band of teenagers called the A-Sides. They closed the concert with a cover of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret.”
Before they played the cover, Martin joked that his 14-year-old bandmate’s had never heard Prince’s music before his death on April 21st. “Well, I said, ask your grandfather, he’s probably my age,” Martin said.
The event was the Chords 2 Cure benefit concert at the New Roads School, with all proceeds benefitting pediatric cancer research. The A-Sides put the event together in order to raise $10,000 to “make a difference for the children afflicted with cancer.”
In January, the A-Sides teamed up with Foo Fighters’ Chris Shiflett at another benefit concert.
The A-Sides also performed Coldplay’s XY track “Twisted Logic” at the Chords 2 Cure benefit concert.
