Last night, our Vancouver Canucks made a little hockey news by trading our 2014 first-rounder Jared McCann to the Florida Panthers for their 2010 3rd overall pick, Erik Gudbranson. The 24-year-old from Ottawa was a big miniutes, top-4 defenceman for the Beach Cats. Gudbranson was third on the team in hits last season. Here he is laying out a Chicago Blackhawks. We still hate them right?
Canucks need to step up in a lot of places to be competitive. Defence was one of those glaring deficiencies. But the hockey world is not sold on this trade being a win for our Orcas in blue and green.
Stay at home defender Erik Gudbranson's shots against impact comparable to Jared Cowen and Nate Guenin. He's not who you think he is.— Travis Yost (@travisyost) May 26, 2016
And that's his supposed strength. His EV scoring rates are Adam McQuaid and Luca Sbisa. This is just lunacy.— Travis Yost (@travisyost) May 26, 2016
OK…compared to Sbisa and Cowan, that can’t be good.
But you know what, there are some Panthers that will miss him, so that has to mean something! The pride of Port McNeil and former Canucks d-man Willie Mitchell will miss Gudbranson.
My wife Coral and I went to the Canucks and Panthers game last year. That was the game where the Canucks snapped the Cats’ winning streak and there was a big bruhaha at the end. Fun night.
