We’re all pretty chazzed about how hard it is to get Tragically Hip tickets for one of their two Rogers Arena shows in July. Did scalper bots buy them all? or a bunch of them? The markups are beyond the reach for almost any working Hip fan.
I saw this article from 2012 about how comedian Louis C.K. tries to combat scalpers for his coveted tour tickets. he talks about selling the tickets on his website. Not announcing exactly when they go on sale, and having people come to the venue to pick up at will call using the credit card and ID to pick up on the day of.
As you might imagine, scalpers hate him…but he is fightuing the good fight. Creatuing the enviroment he wants for his fans, keeping tickets prices done and still making a healthy profit for his work.
Talking in a 2012 Techcrunch article, he had this quote:
“Contact with these scalpers has been enlightening. They tend to respond with indignance and a defensive posture “Hey man! Scalping is NOT a crime!” We’re not treating it as a crime or even a wrong-doing. We are just competing with them, on behalf of my fans, to enforce the terms and conditions of our ticket sales and to keep the prices down. It’s worth the effort, it’s working and it’s even been kind of fun.”
Louis C.K. announced that he will be touring throughout 2016…and still the battle against scalpers rages on!
But should we expect any less from the man, he is pretty smart! I like you Louis C.K.
