This blog segment is about two things.
#1) Holding your hand and hopefully helping you discover a new song for your playlist each week.
#2) Seeing if we can’t keep it semi relevant to either what’s happened in the last week, or what’s about to happen in the next week…(let’s not be too sticky on that one).
Last Friday Red Hot Chili Peppers released their 11th album The Getaway, and if I’m going to be totally honest, I wasn’t really all that excited for it. I just haven’t heard anything from them over the last 3 albums that has really stood out to me. Sure, a good song here and there…but in reality they’ve become that safe radio band that sounds homogenized and a little bit boring. Just to put my point of view into perspective, I’m not even a die hard old school funky chili peppers super fan. My favourite album is One Hot Minute, a record that pretty much everybody (including the band) has dismissed as a bastardization, which is sad because I think Dave Navarro brought a new rock sonic quality to the band that they haven’t been able to replicate (possibly by choice) since.
But my love for One Hot Minute isn’t the main story here. There’s a new album with a new producer and a new approach, and there’s just something fresh and infectious about The Getaway.
This song is outstanding, the outro starting at 3:33 is some of the best RCHP I’ve ever heard, but don’t just jump ahead…the build up is part of the magic.
Flea’s bass line, and Chad’s drumming through the verses are the shining stars in this one.
That should be enough of a taste to convince you to either add those songs to your playlist, or to check out the rest of the album. But since we were just talking about One Hot Minute, and this blog segment is about introducing you to new songs, do yourself a favour and go on the journey that these two tracks from from the criminally underrated album will take you on.
