We’re doing it!
Hey remember in the olden days when we were just spraying aerosol cans left, right, and centre! Those were heady times. But all that hair spray and mosquito repellent was drifting on up into the ozone layer above the Earth. And since the 70s was depleting an important and vital part of our environment. It was discovered that a “hole” had formed above Antarctica. SCARY!
In 1989 there was a Montreal Protocol to try and reduce harmful gasses being used by people and an attempt to try and repair the damage we caused.
Here we are…almost 30 years later and Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers believe that the hole in the ozone layer appears to be “healing.”
“We can now be confident that the things we’ve done have put the planet on a path to heal,” says lead author Susan Solomon, the Ellen Swallow Richards Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Science at MIT. “Which is pretty good for us, isn’t it? Aren’t we amazing humans, that we did something that created a situation that we decided collectively, as a world, ‘Let’s get rid of these molecules’? We got rid of them, and now we’re seeing the planet respond.”
We DID IT WORLD!
