I’m sorry, what? I wasn’t paying attention. Did I read this Vancouver Sun article correctly…the new ownership group of Whistler-Blackcomb plans to cut the price of a season pass to our storied winter resort.
Vail Resorts recently purchased Whistler-Blackcomb for $1.4 billion dollars and in a weird bit corporate streamlining, we’re going to save money!
Vail has an Epic Pass which they sell at 13 of their other mountains…they go for about $809 US dollars. To bring that epic pass in line with their new resort, Whistler, the annual pass will need to come down from $2,000 CDN! That sounds like a win for any avid skier and boarder.
When the company brought in their Epic Pass back in 2008 at Vail the cost of a season pass was $1,500 US. They dropped it to $600 and season passes exploded from 40,000 a year to 550,000.
I wonder if my folks still have my ski equipment from the 90s in the shed?
