Global News has a story of a hiker who woke up too late for a Labour Day Long weekend hike at Joffre, and discovered that hundreds of other people had beat him to the trail head. So he took a video showing just how popular the Provincial Park can be on a busy weekend.
The video shows a line up of cars “3 kilometers” long heading to the Joffre Lakes parking lot. The park which features a steep climb up to stunning emerald lakes just outside of Pemberton is exceptionally popular.
Global says the hiker will be sending the video to the Ministry of Transportation and is “calling for change.” But doesn’t specify what that change is. Pave some more parking lot? I dunno…I say wake up earlier, pick a different weekend or go to a different park. My wife and I did the hike last October. It was busy but nothing like this insanity. And after the hike, some locals told us there are other hikes in the area, with beautiful emerald lakes and a fraction of the traffic.
