Oh man… we’ve come full circle. It was almost exactly one year ago that Making a Murderer appeared on Netflix and captivated people trying to figure out if Steven Avery was guilty or not of murder. One thing most people agreed on, however, was that Brendan Dassey, his nephew and “accomplice” got a raw deal.
Today we found out that Brendan is getting out of jail! A judge has ruled that he should be released from prison pending appeal. His conviction was overturned earlier this fall after a new investigation revealed what we all knew – that is confession was coerced.
“We believe the magistrate judge’s decision that Brendan Dassey’s confession was coerced by investigators, and that no reasonable court could have concluded otherwise, is wrong on the facts and wrong on the law. Two state courts carefully examined the evidence and properly concluded that Brendan Dassey’s confession to sexually assaulting and murdering Teresa Halbach with his uncle, Steven Avery, was voluntary, and the investigators did not use constitutionally impermissible tactics.” – Attorney General Brad Schimel
Maybe he can hit up Wrestlemania finally!
