The HBO high fantasy series Game of Thrones returns in July. Yesterday we had trailer pop up and though the scenes don’t actually show anything from the upcoming season 7….that hasn’t stopped people from trying to speculate what it means to see Jon Snow, Cerci Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen walking towards thrones.
The clip also features a dark song with lyrics like, “in love and fear, and hate and tears.”
The original “Sit Down” doesn’t sound too much like the version in the trailer. When the song came out in 1989 on Rough Trade Records, it was 7-and-a-half minutes long and topped out on the charts in the UK at 77.
The song was tightened up and the lyrics changed and it was re-released in 1991. That version did much better and was a hit.
James lead singer Tim Booth is a huge fan of the series (and novels) and talked about getting the opportunity to have one of his songs used by HBO.
“Having read the books, and watched the series twice, I was very excited when Game Of Thronesasked to use “Sit Down” for their preview. I think the last two songs used were “Heroes” and “Wicked Game,” so we are in great company. We thought they would make their own version, to suit the landscape of the series, but apparently they were attached to the original. Now if only they would invite us to perform at Daenery’s coronation …”
