Sir Elton John and song-writing partner Bernie Taupin held a contest to have music video created for three of their classic 70s Much Mega Hits…. “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Tiny Dancer.”
At the Cannes Film Festival, John unveiled the winner and new videos. John said, “the future of creativity is clearly collaborative, fusing art and technology, and it’s been fantastic to open up our work to the next generation of creative talent and to share that process with the world on YouTube.”
I personally enjoyed all three videos but “Rocket Man” was my favourite. Majid Adin animated the clip and tells the modern story of a migrant leaving to create a better life for his family. The story echos Adin’s own biography as he emigrated to the the U from Iran during the 2015 refugee crisis. The video does a suburb job melding the lyrical theme to the visuals…painting the migrant as a “Rocket Man” on a great journey.
“Tiny Dancer” shows people cruising in LA and the incredible characters you might come across.
“Bennie and the Jets” takes on a surreal narrative.
