Late day tweet from my man Kevin.
I love me a good sandwich and have been known to travel many kilometers for a sandwich that has been tagged “the best.”
My wife Coral and I made our way to Chinatown to Say Hey Cafe on Pender. Writer Neal McLennan says their meatball hoagie is “the best sandwich in Vancouver.”
“It’s a melange of hormone free beef shoulder, pork belly and bacon on a hoagie roll toasted with provolone and topped with house-pickled serrano peppers, handfuls of arugula and a splash of chili aioli. It’s just a wonderful sandwich.”
Those house-pickled serrano peppers are ace.
Personally, I can’t say if this is the “best” sandwich I’ve every eaten, but as far as meatball hoagies go, this is a top 5 for sure.
And like any groovy downtown eatery…strange and wonderful music.
They had French-Italian singer Nino Ferrer jamming on the PA. Here’s 1974’s “Looking For You.”
