Before drones, before Rogers Arena, before the city of glass…someone put a camera on an airplane and captured a series of scenes showcasing Vancouver in 1984.
The silent film is 24-minutes long and shows off a bunch of the attractions which me might consider iconic parts of our city today. BC Place with it’s original pillowtop roof, Science World, the Seabus, and the completed Stanley Park Seawall (with counter clockwise one-way bike lane!).
We’ll get some shots of UBC, the West End, Lions Gate Bridge, lumber, people jogging. It’s all there!
Jenni Sheppard at the Daily Hive found out the clips are raw footage used to make a 1985 promotional video for the city. Neat.
Man, if only I had a time machine….I’d buy up so much property and stop the Canucks from trading Cam Neely!
