Former
Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus has hinted that a reunion of the
punk-pop trio could happen at some point. In a new post at his blog,
himynameismark.com, Hoppus discusses his feelings about the September
plane crash that killed four and gravely injured drummer Travis Barker,
Hoppus' bandmate in both Blink and Plus 44. Near the end of his post,
Hoppus writes, "In the midst of everything else that has happened lately, Tom
(DeLonge, Blink frontman), Travis, and I have all spoken together. First
through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out
for a few hours. They've all been great, very positive conversations. We're just
reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking. It's a good
thing."
Hoppus
adds, "Obviously the first question for a lot of people will be 'Does this mean
a Blink-182 reunion?' The answer is none of us know. We haven't talked about it
at all. Right now it's just good for the three of us to see one another,
reconnect, and let the past be the past. The events of the past two months
supersede everything that happened before."

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has once again sparked
speculation that the group could break up, possibly by the end of next year. In
an interview with England's Daily Express, the 31-year-old Martin
remarked that he didn't think the members of any rock band should keep going
past the age of 33, saying, "So we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up
until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense." Martin added,
"I don't believe in time off. We've still got most of our hair, we can still fit
into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."
Rumors
of Coldplay's demise have cropped up as far back as the group's 2002 sophomore
album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, usually helped along by comments from
Martin himself. But Martin also said at the time that every album could
potentially be the group's last: ["The way I look at it is that we could die
at any point, you know? We're on airplanes all the time and we, you know, life
to me seems very fragile and there's no point in saving songs for your 15th
record because ...

Puddle of Mudd are one of 50 bands slated to perform at a new
"destination festival" called Rock Gone Wild, according to Harddrive
Radio. The event is scheduled for August 20th through the 23rd, 2009, at the
FreedomPark grounds in Algona, Iowa, located in driving distance from both the
Des Moines and Minneapolis airports. The rest of the confirmed lineup so far is
decidedly creakier, featuring 80s holdovers like Skid Row, Dangerous
Toys, Rhino Bucket, Saigon Kick, Great White and
Kix. Three different ticket packages -- platinum, VIP and general
admission -- are available, with details at
rockgonewild.com.
Puddle
Of Mudd is a few weeks away from completing more than a year of touring in
support of its latest album, Famous.
The
itinerary included stops in Iraq and South Korea to play for U.S. troops.
Guitarist Christian Stone told us about a visit to the Demilitarized Zone
(DMZ) between North and South Korea: ["We were with Saliva, and so you had,
like, our whole crew, which is like eight or 10, you know, rocker-looking dudes,
and Saliva, I don't know if you've ever seen them, but I mean they look like a
rock band from a mile away. And we're ...

Finnish rock cello quartet Apocalyptica scored their first Number
One rock radio hit this past week with "I Don't Care," the latest single from
the band's sixth studio album, Worlds Collide. The disc has sold 131,000
copies in the U.S. and marks the group's first significant success in this
country in their 15-year career. Band member Paavo Lotjonen told us that
their newfound recognition has been worth all the effort: ["It's been really
amazing, all the success we have got. Of course it has taken a lot of work and
we have given our heart to this. But I feel that it's been worth that and we
have reached something new."] SOUNDCUE (:12 OC: . . . reached something
new.)
"I
Don't Care" features guest vocals from Three Days Grace frontman Adam
Gontier.
Slipknot's Corey Taylor contributed vocals to the CD's
first single, "I'm Not Jesus."
"I
Don't Care" replaced Metallica's "The Day That Never Comes" at the top of
the rock chart. Ironically, Apocalyptica's debut disc was a collection of
Metallica covers, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos.

A
supermarket in the British town of Lancashire was forced to apologize to
shoppers after one of the employees played the Rage Against The Machine
song "Killing In The Name" over the store's P.A. system. According to
Gigwise.com, the management of the Asda market said they were "very
sorry" after shoppers complained about the track, which features the line "F***k
you I won't do what you tell me" repeated 16 times. Customer Nicola
Gahagan told the Lancashire Evening Post, "I spoke to another woman
who had a child...If I was watching television I would not have to put up with
that."
The
store management said in a statement, "We're taking this very seriously and
doing everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen again."
Rage
Against The Machine has not commented on the matter. The band does not have any
live dates currently scheduled, although guitarist Tom Morello is touring
behind his latest solo effort, The Fabled City.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield says he "hasn't lost
sleep" waiting for the long-delayed arrival of the new Guns N' Roses
album, Chinese Democracy. When asked if he was interested in the album
despite a contentious relationship with singer Axl Rose in the past,
Hetfield told the Houston Chronicle, "I'll certainly listen to it. But I
haven't lost sleep waiting for it. I thought we took a long time to make an
album. But you know he's late for everything so it makes total sense. We saw him
play at a festival in Germany two years ago. He's a good frontman. He's
eccentric, but all artists are. If they don't show that they're quirky, they're
lying to you."
Chinese Democracy comes out this Sunday (November 23rd),
exclusively through Best Buy.
The
album begins streaming in its entirety on Thursday (November 20th) at Guns N'
Roses' official MySpace page, and will continue until Sunday.
