Metallica's James Hetfield, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Ozzy Osbourne are among the nominees for the first ever Big Daddy Awards, sponsored by a national prostate cancer awareness campaign called On The Line. According to Loudwire, the 2012 Big Daddy awards will honor celebrity dads in conjunction with Father's Day, while also raising funds for prostate cancer research and awareness. Other well-known figures like President Barack Obama and actor Brad Pitt have also been nominated in more than 33 different categories.
- Hetfield, Grohl, Jon Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler are all nominated in the "Rock On Big Daddy" category, while Ozzy and Kiss bassist Gene Simmons get the nod in the "All Time Reality TV Big Daddy" field.
- Ozzy admits he wasn't always the best dad, and told us not long ago that the many years he spent drunk and high took a toll on his relationship with his kids -- especially Jack: ["The one downside about being the crazy guy of rock 'n' roll was the fact that I missed out on my children somewhat and they missed out on me. I had an argument with my son one time, and I go to him, 'Jack, what are you moaning at me for? You never wanted for a damn thing.' And he goes, 'Oh yeah? What about a father?' And it just kicked me straight between the legs and I was like, 'Good God.'"] SOUNDCUE (:23 OC: . . . like, 'Good God.')
- Voting is open at the awards website now and will close on Father's Day (June 17th), with the winners to be announced the following Monday (June 18th).
- For a donation, voters can also add photos of their dads to the site's gallery.
