 The effects of last weekend's stage collapse just hours before a Radiohead concert in Toronto continue to be felt as the band has been forced to cancel seven European shows on its current tour. Radiohead issued a statement saying, "As you will probably have heard the roof over the stage collapsed at our show in Toronto killing crew member Scott Johnsonand injuring three other crew members. The collapse also destroyed the light show -- this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace."
The statement continued, "Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with," before listing the seven postponed shows and revealing that the group will resume its tour on July 10th in Nimes, France. The statement concludes, "We will make every effort to offer the fans the very best show possible under the circumstances -- thanks for your understanding and support."
- The group plans to announce rescheduled shows next Wednesday (June 27th), along with refund information for fans who cannot make the new dates.
- A company run by the members of Radiohead is among four outfits being investigated by Canadian authorities following last Saturday's tragedy, which left three injured in addition to the death of Johnson, a 33-year-old drum technician.
- Johnson died when the top portion of the stage fell on him as he was setting up the band's equipment. A statement posted by Radiohead drummer Phil Selway called him "a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much."
