Vancouver (CKNW/AM980)
VANCOUVER _ The Vancouver Canucks have started games so well since returning from a marathon road trip that it doesn't seem to matter how much gas they have left in the tank at the finish.
The Canucks blitzed their visitors in the first period for the second time in as many nights Sunday to score a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.
They poured 20 shots on the Calgary net and forged a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, a shelling that surpassed the 17 first-period shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.
The wins were the first home games since Vancouver returned from 14 straight away dates because the 2010 Olympic Games occupied GM Place.
``Both games we had a ton of shots and a ton of chances, more importantly,'' said goalie Roberto Luongo who made 26 of his 32 saves in the final 40 minutes.
``Obviously tonight was a huge first period for us where we got a three-goal lead and it carried us pretty much the rest of the way.''
Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler added to point streaks with first-period goals as Vancouver maintained a five-point Northwest Division lead over the ...

TORONTO - Dennis Skulsky is resigning as president and CEO of the publishing division of Canwest Global Communications Corp. effective April 30, the company announced Friday.
Skulsky says he wants to spend more time with his family and pursue other opportunities closer to his home in British Columbia.
That all but confirms a story in the Globe and Mail that Skulsky is set to become the president and CEO of the B-C Lions, a position that has been vacant since the sudden passing of Bob Ackles almost two years ago.
Lions owner David Braley would not comment on the report, but did say that Skulsky would be a good fit if he was able to acquire him.

Vancouver (CKNW/AM980)
ST. PAUL, Minn. _ Niklas Backstrom got his first win in three weeks, and the Minnesota Wild scored three power-play goals against Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, sending him to the bench early in a 6-2 victory over the Canucks on Sunday.
Cal Clutterbuck's shot off an uncovered rebound in the slot with 11:56 remaining slipped past Luongo for a 5-1 lead, prompting coach Alain Vigneault to summon backup Andrew Raycroft to finish up.
Luongo, who began the day ranked in the top six in the NHL in both goals against average and wins, has given up five goals four times this season _ twice against the Wild.
After falling to 13th place in the Western Conference, seven points out of the final playoff spot, the Wild played one of their best games this season right before the Olympic break.
Defenceman Cam Barker made his Minnesota debut and scored on a late slapshot. The third overall pick in the 2004 draft, Barker was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade on Friday.
Backstrom, who missed six games with a back injury and then an illness, made 27 saves. The Wild outshot the Canucks 17-2 in the second period and did ...
