Chris Cornell now has changed his mind about RnR Hall Of Fame

Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell said in a recent fan question and answer session at HBO's website that inducting Heart into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month was an "eye-opening experience" that changed his view of the entire institution. Cornell explained, "I was certainly honored, but had always had a cynical attitude about an institution like this as it pertains to rock 'n' roll in general. The fan support of all the bands inducted and their emotional enthusiasm changed everything for me."

The news that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was going to be the new frontman -- more or less -- for Stone Temple Pilots seems to have divided fans of both bands, but one person thinks it sounds great: Slash. The legendary guitarist, who played in Velvet Revolver with former STP vocalist Scott Weiland before dismissing him from that band, tweeted, "On a quick break from interviews, listening to new @STPband w/ @chesterbe sounds fantastic! Really excited for this new line-up."

Bass Player Leaves Nine Inch Nails

Well, that was fast: just a few months after being announced as part of the new Nine Inch Nails lineup constructed by Trent Reznor, bassist Eric Avery has pulled out of the band, writing on Facebook, "It's been a tough call and I don't know if it's the right one. I really want to focus on my musical life here in L.A., on film work in particular."

Avery spent last year on tour with Garbage and said he was "overwhelmed" at the thought of going out again with NIN. He added, "I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands . . . fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and '14."

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony are in the studio with ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar, where the Red Rocker is working on a new album. The three musicians, of course, comprise three-fourths of the lineup of Chickenfoot, although they are apparently not making a new Chickenfoot record at the moment. Joining them on guitar is Neal Schon of Journey, who also played with Hagar in the early Eighties act HSAS.

Alice In Chains sued by MOM

Nancy McCallum, the mother of late Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, has filed a lawsuit against the band, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. McCallum claims that the surviving members of the band owe her half of the money that would have gone to her son in royalties, which comes out to about 16 percent of the group's total income, and that the band has attempted to stop any further payments to her.

According to McCallum's lawsuit, an attorney for the band told her in September 2012 that Staley's interest in Alice in Chains' works was being liquidated and that the revenue sharing agreement that had seen her paid over the past decade was being terminated. Yet McCallum wants a court to establish her right to 16 percent of the band's income as well as any of her son's assets controlled by his former bandmates.

Foo Fighters join forces with Lamb Of God?

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has teamed up with Lamb Of God singer Randy Blythe plus bassist Mike Dean and drummer Reed Mullin of veteran hardcore band Corrosion Of Conformity in a new project called Teenage Time Killer. Blythe posted a photo of himself with the COC guys at Instagram on Thursday (May 9th), while promising that the new outfit will feature "a bunch of cool vocalists." The instrumental sections of the project were recorded at Grohl's personal studio on the famous mixing board he bought from the Sound City recording facility.

Singer Tim Lambesis of Christian hard rock act As I Lay Dying was arrested on Tuesday (May 7th) for allegedly hiring someone to kill his estranged wife. The 32-year-old vocalist was taken into custody without incident in the north San Diego community of Oceanside, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. The investigation began after Lambesis contacted an undercover detective on May 2nd about killing his wife, who lives in Encinitas and reportedly filed for divorce on September 20th, 2012. There is at least one child involved in the marriage as well. Lambesis is expected be arraigned on Wednesday (May 8th) or Thursday (May 9th). (Reuters)

Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan told Loudwire in a new interview that 2014 is looking more and more like the year that the band comes back. Crahan said, "Slipknot 2014. You can smell it in the air and people can feel it. The energy is out there and you can feel it. People go places we once were and feel it there, but not in full body, and that's just because we're returning. You can ask anyone around the world what the culture of the 'Knot is, who truly knows, and they will tell you that something has changed in the atmosphere."

New METALLICA album?

Metallica seems to be taking a page out of Tool's playbook these days by offering vague or even contradictory statements about the status of the band's next studio album. Although drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo seemed to have indicated in recent interviews that at least some writing for the album had taken place, frontman James Hetfield has a different take.

Hetfield told Abu Dhabi's That's Entertainment, "We haven't even started writing it. We're going through riffs. We have, like, 800-and-something riffs we're going through -- lots of ideas. We're really excited about it, but doing concerts here and there, trying to get back in the studio and get some stuff done, it's all really exciting. But it gets done on Metallica time, which is not really scheduled. When it's done, it's done and when it's good, then it will be done."
