Strikeforce’s eight-man heavyweight tournament started out looking like one of the most epic in MMA history, but quickly devolved into a comedy of errors. However, after many problems, delays and changing names, it has ended up with a final match that has captured the attention of the MMA world. On Saturday, May 19th in San Jose, CA, US Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier will clash with MMA pioneer Josh “The Warmaster” Barnett for the tournament’s top honours, and bragging rights for having won Strikeforce’s last heavyweight fight before it phases out the division. Although the 9-0 Cormier is still new to the sport, his numerous first-round stoppages (including a notable one against Brazilian giant Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva) have shown him to be eminently dangerous, while no one can doubt the lethality of Barnett, whose 31-5 career extends back over 15 years and includes victories over names like Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. This fight is truly worthy to see off the Strikeforce heavyweight division, and will almost certainly establish a future contender for the UFC world heavyweight championship!
