BELFORT SHOCKS THE WORLD -- AGAIN!

Last Saturday at "UFC on FOX 8", before a Brazilian arena jammed with vociferous supporters, 36-year-old former UFC tournament and light-heavyweight champ Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort continued his Father Time-defying run with a first-round knockout of former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold.  After a brawl nearly erupted at the weigh-in (with Belfort making his intentions known through a throat-slitting gesture), Belfort followed his jaw-dropping performances against Jon Jones and Michael Bisping with a picture-perfect Tae Kwon Do spinning heel kick that knocked Rockhold to the canvas where he became easy prey for Belfort’s fists of fury.  This victory presents an interesting conundrum, as it puts Belfort in the title mix while he is unable to fight in Nevada due to not having an exemption for the testosterone replacement therapy that he's known to use.  It will be interesting to see how the middleweight title picture shakes out in the wake of ...



ROCKHOLD MAKES UFC DEBUT ON “THE PHENOM’S” HOME TURF

After an undefeated nine-fight run that saw him claim that now-defunct Strikeforce promotion’s middleweight title, American Kickboxing Academy standout Luke Rockhold faces a legend on Saturday’s “UFC on FOX 8” card in Santa Catarina, Brazil.  With wins over elite-level competition like Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Tim Kennedy under his championship belt, the oft-injured Rockhold has stayed in one piece long enough to make his Octagon debut against former UFC tournament and light-heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort.  Certainly an auspicious opponent for his first UFC battle, and one who has recently looked as dangerous as ever with a strong performance against current LHW champ Jon Jones and a KO victory over Michael “The Count” Bisping.  A lot of buzz surrounds the talented Rockhold, and many questions will be answered when he enters the cage before a hostile Brazilian crowd to attempt to duplicate in UFC the rampant success he enjoyed in Strikeforce!--
