OVEREEM CHARGED WITH BATTERY

On the heels of his legal troubles with the Golden Glory fight team (of which he was until recently a member), former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem is in more hot water after an incident outside the Wynn Las Vegas hotel in the early hours of January 2nd.  Allegedly, the 6'5", 270 pound Overeem pushed a 5'4" woman in the face, causing her to stagger backward and causing misdemeanour battery charges to be levied against him.  According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Overeem is scheduled to appear in court on February 21st and faces a maximum penalty of 6 months in county jail and a $1000 fine.  A reliable source has informed me that Overeem already has a prior aggravated battery conviction in Holland, and while it must be noted that there are two sides to every story (and Overeem has yet to provide his), this situation has the potential to ...


THE TRASH TALK CONTINUES

As we count the final hours until Sportsnet airs “UFC on FOX” on Saturday at 8 PM, the trash talk continues to sizzle between headliners Rashad Evans and Phil Davis.  Yesterday, Evans tore into Davis over his lack of experience, saying: “Phil is just a nice guy. He’s not a fighter.  He has no killer instinct for this and he’s got no experience at this level.  He’s in deep water, and I’m the shark.”  But Davis remained undeterred, rebutting with:  “He thinks he’s a better wrestler than me…I would beat him 100 times out of 100.  I was a champion; he just competed…the inexperience thing isn’t an issue. I am less experienced than every single guy I’ve faced [in MMA] and I am unbeaten.  I am experienced at winning, and that’s what really matters.”  If the fight lives up to the smack talk, then you are gonna kick yourself harder ...
