Barnburner Are Sabbath Fans... Like Every Other Metal Band
Montreal's Barnburner are among the latest additions to the Metal Blade roster. They re-released their album Bangers last month, digitally remastering it with some bonus tracks. They'll be gigging around eastern Canada and some parts of the United States in support of it this month, and will also play a Canadian Music Week showcase in Toronto. "It was monumental, really," guitarist/vocalist Kevin Keegan says of the Metal Blade signing. "It's one of those labels that's just so legendary. I've loved so many of the bands over the years. I never in my wildest dreams thought that Barnburner would be on this label because we have a...

Neu! Catalog Collected in Vinyl Box Set
Photo by Anton Corbijn Michael Rother and the late Klaus Dinger formed the Düsseldorf duo Neu! in 1971, after both musicians left Kraftwerk. Over the next few years, they perfected a minimal, hypnotic pulse-groove that went on to have a seismic effect on krautrock and all the stuff that would be influenced by krautrock-- which is to say, a lot of stuff. (Take a look at the tracklist for this tribute album, for example.) On May 10, Gronland will release a limited edition Neu! vinyl box set, offering a retrospective of the band's influential catalogue. This would be a pretty awesome thing to have in your possession. The box includes all...

CMW 2010 Hot Acts: Green Go
Stiff upper lip, down and out bands of Canada. At the beginning of 2009, Guelph, Ont. dance-electro-rocking party impresarios Green Go had a finished album, but didn't have anywhere to release it. Feeling that the end may have been nigh, they decided to release it themselves anyway, but not before attracting the attention of a label and voracious dance-rock music lovers nationwide. Borders came out on Pheromone Records last April and since then the upstart quintet toured western Canada and released a remix record (with another on the way). This summer, they'll also record their follow-up, so let it be known going Green can have an...

Ted Leo, "Lazy Sunday" Hit "Fallon"
Say what you want about Jimmy Fallon's sometimes cringe-inducing and sycophantic interviewing style, but the dude's music booker has got the internet (or, at least, this particular web space) going nuts lately. Hot Chip, Beach House, Yeasayer, Neon Indian, Erykah Badu, and Joanna Newsom are some of the names to grace the "Light Night" stage recently. Now we can add Ted Leo and the Pharmacists to that list. Leo played "The Mighty Sparrow" from his great (and just-released) new LP, The Brutalist Bricks, last night, and you can watch it below. Monday night's show also featured the first ever live version of Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell's...

Australian AC/DC Fans In More Trouble
Australian AC/DC fans are crazy. Just over a week after a quadriplegic man lost his sight when his wheelchair flew into the mosh pit and he impaled his eye on part of his chair at an AC/DC show in Brisbane, Australia, two more AC/DC shows in the country have seen violence and... drugs. Surprise! Let's start with the blood. A 39-year-old man was reportedly in the hospital for surgery after being cut in the neck with glass from what police think was a broken beer bottle during a fight outside AC/DC's show in Perth, Australia on Monday (March 8) night. The man and his friends couldn't afford tickets to the show, so they parked their van,...
